Afternoon Delight

Today was a catch-up day, or as Marcelle calls them, "fluffy-slipper days". We spent the morning gratefully catching up on emails and such, thanks to our thoughtful neighbor, Bill, who is allowing us to share his internet. The area west of Port Alberni has exceeded the available broadband connection (both cable and telco) out to this area. So, basically, if you already had it, you're golden, but if not, you're toast. We are actually connecting through satellite internet, and so far, it's working quite well.

Anyway, about 4pm, I decided to wander over to Big Beach, just to get out and walk a bit. When I walk, as a photographer, my eye is always on the lookout for some focal point upon which to compose an image. At the end of the block, there is a small (waist-high) rock formation and within this miniature landscape were two tiny plants.

The tide was just about to reach its low point, and the sun was getting low on the horizon, clouds threw beams of slanting light to the water below.

On the shoreline, there is a huge amount of kelp and other seawater veggies that snag among the rocks, filling the air with the sweet rotting aroma that mixes with the salt air to produce the universal smell of 'beach'.

On the 8-minute walk back to the house, I captured another enduring west coast image:

All in all, a delightful afternoon.
