Physicians, Halos and Dumps

This morning, we drove up to Tofino as I had a doctor's appointment for a pre-op physical in preparation for my hernia surgery next week. All very straightforward, but it afforded us the opportunity to have an early lunch at one of our very favorite restaurants, the TacoFino Cantina, where we scarfed down delicious crispy chicken burritos (muchos yummy!).

While we were there, we noticed that there was a beautiful halo around the sun which I tried to capture. Here is the description according to Wikipedia:

A 22° halo is a halo, one type of optical phenomenon, forming a circle 22° around thesun, or occasionally the moon (also called a moon ring or winter halo). It forms as sunlight is refracted in millions of randomly oriented hexagonal ice crystals suspended in the atmosphere.

A beautiful phenomenon!

After lunch, we opted to go to nearby McKenzie Beach, which we had not yet seen. Although fairly picturesque, it is quite small, has no appreciable surf and is surrounded by resorts. (We really prefer the wild beaches with WAVES.)

We didn't spend too much time there, and on the way home, took care of a chore that needed attending to: visiting the dump. Apparently, our garbage weighed too much for the gentlemen on the truck, so they thoughtfully left it up to us to dispose of it. Hence our foray to the local dump where we discovered that not only is it an excellent place to find garbage, but also a ton of eagles! Our guess is that they prey on the scavengers that lurk in the area, and we counted four of them with just a casual eye. They truly are magnificent.

Well, that was our exciting day in our life on the edge. Who can say what we'll find tomorrow?
